There are objects that pass through time.
And there are those that seem to carry it within them.
The Last Watch belongs to the latter.
This work was created by artist Vladimir Mukhin upon a pair of Buckham leather boots — not as decoration, but as a continuation of his painterly language beyond canvas. The leather here is not a surface. It is a ground, a field, a place where the image is born and held.
Across the boots unfolds a maritime narrative: a vessel cutting through restless water, a solitary figure, a distant lighthouse dissolving into light and mist. It is not a literal scene, but a memory of one — something seen, felt, and then reassembled through the hand of the artist.
Mukhin approaches the material as he would approach oil painting — through layering, restraint, and control. Pigment settles into the texture of the leather, merges with its wear, and becomes inseparable from it. The image does not sit on the object. It lives inside it.
Light moves across the surface like signal through fog.
Color holds tension between depth and erosion.
The figure appears and disappears depending on how the object is seen.
What emerges is not an illustration of the sea, but its presence — quiet, persistent, and unresolved.
This is not footwear.
It is a singular object shaped by time, material, and the hand of Vladimir Mukhin.
No stencils.
No duplication.
The composition evolves directly on the garment, guided by texture, wear, and structure.
This is not customization.
This is transformation.
